Be the Match, Make a difference!
World Marrow Donor Day is September 16. Join a global community, Be the Match, and help save a life.
One of my favorite memories at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill is walking through the Pit during the beginning of a semester and signing up for various clubs, events or sports. (Go Heels!) That is when I joined Be the Match, a not-for-profit bone marrow donation service that uses donated bone marrow to help cure people with leukemia and lymphoma.
To date, I have not been called upon to donate. And I have heard that the donation process is tough. But who am I to say no if I can help someone? Cancer is all around us and it makes us feel helpless, sad and angry. I hope for a cure every day. Because I'm not a scientist working towards a cure, I try to find other ways to help, like Be the Match, Race for the Cure, and Relay for Life.
I was not aware that September 16 is World Marrow Donor Day. Were you?
Read about Be the Match donor stories, and consider helping in your own way. Please share any other ways you've found to fight the fight against cancer!
