Have you ever had a friendship that neither time nor distance could fade/diminish? For me I have a friendship like that with Lisa. Meet Lisa (on the right)!
I met Lisa 19 years ago, when we were both Freshman at the University of North Carolina (it's hard to believe we've known each other almost 20 years!!). We lived next door to each other on the same floor of our dorm. Then we lived together as roommates for the next 2 years. We have not lived in the same town, or the same state, since I moved to Colorado in 2001. The last 15 years have brought many changes to our lives: we each got married, had children, lost loved ones, and have had both wonderful and challenging experiences. And yet, though it all, we have done our best to share these experiences, and our lives, with each other. Thank goodness for email and text messages!
Recently I got the chance to go back to beautiful North Carolina to visit Lisa and meet her kids. It had been 5 years since my last visit, and I had never met her kiddos. What a wonderful gift it was to spend time with my dear friend and her family!! We picked right up where we left off last. We shared. We laughed. We walked. We ate. Lisa hasn't changed! She is still funny, opinionated, thoughtful, hard-working, adventurous, and just plain amazing. It made me realize how much I have missed having her in my daily life. For example, we got to take a walk one night. We walked and talked for about 2 hours – never a quiet moment between us. We still didn't get close to what felt like catching up. We got to walk on the UNC-Chapel Hill campus, just the two of us. We haven't done that since we lived together in the dorms, and it was amazing. It felt just like it had so many years ago.
This trip really made me want to find a better way to stay more closely connected. For me, this desire to share with and stay connected to Lisa is the driving force behind creating this blog.
Here we will share what we have learned, our successes, our struggles, and our lives. We want to share them with each other, and we want to share them with you!
So please join us. Share your experiences with us. We can all grow and learn together!
