Fall Tree Apple Stamping Craft For Kids
Watch art come alive as you turn apples into stamps for crafting. This apple stamp craft is an easy and inexpensive project that kids LOVE to make. Here’s how to make an apple stamp painting that you’ll want to use as part of your fall decor!
It’s apple season! Admittedly, when I think of fall and apple season, I think of EATING them in yummy desserts like in my Healthy Indulgent Apple Crisp Recipe!
But one time I saw (on Pinterest) this idea of cutting apples in half and using them as a painting tool for kids.
Well, then my ideas were off and running! I thought I would try it for myself with my own kids to see if it was one of those crafts that was actually better in theory than in reality. 😉
I love the way it turned out! My kids had so much fun letting their creativity soar, and I loved that they could enjoy a screen-free activity so much!

Why is painting important in early childhood?
Painting provides many benefits for kids, including:
- improving brain development – it uses different areas of the brain
- relaxing
- helps develop muscle control
- is a great sensory experience (also great for brain development)
- teaches cause and effect
- helps teach colors, shapes, and numbers
Can you spare an apple in the name of art? If so, try creating with your kids an apple stamp painting craft that looks like a Fall tree where the apples create the leaves of the tree!

Fall Tree Apple Stamp Painting Supplies Needed
Gather together these simple supplies and get ready to have some fun!
- Apples, cut in half
- White craft paper
- Paint in fall colors – red, orange, gold, purple, brown
- Paintbrush
- Paper bowls or plates for paint
How To Make This Apple Stamping Craft
- Use a paintbrush to paint a tree shape on the paper. Allow it to dry slightly.
- Next, dip an apple half in one color at a time and stamp around the tree in various places to create the leaves. Allow the picture to dry slightly between color layers to keep them from smearing.
- Feel free to add a stamp or two at the base of the tree to represent fallen leaves!
Variations To Try
- Feel free to make the paint thicker on the apples before stamping. It creates a totally different effect in your painting!
- Change up the colors…instead of doing fall leaf colors just stick to apple colors (red, green, maybe yellow).
- Change the tree to a basket or bucket and stamp the apples piled up and almost spilling out.
- Try cutting shapes into the apple flesh to create a different look to the apple stamping craft art! (Safety note: I recommend doing this FOR your kids instead of letting them do it so they don’t cut themselves)
- Go completely abstract by taking away the structure of the tree image. It’s a different (but just as much fun) kind of painting!
FAQs
Here are a few answers to common questions I see from readers when it comes to making an apple stamping craft.
How do you do Apple stamping?
The process for making an apple painting craft is super simple! Basically, it just comes down to painting paint onto the open side of a cut-in-half apple. Then have your child hold the apple and put the paint side down on their paper.
Instant apple stamping craft!
You can do it like I did where we created a specific image, and you could create a different image, or you could let your kids “free paint” and just have creative fun!
What type of paint is the best to use for apple stamping?
As with most of my craft projects, I prefer using acrylic paint. It’s water-based so it’s more washable than many other types of paint!
I can’t guarantee that it’ll come out of clothes, so I do recommend having your kids wear an apron or smock to protect their clothes if you don’t want them to get messed up!
