Valentine Cake Pops Ingredients
Here’s everything you need for these easy cake pops!
- 1/2 baked cake (boxed cake or homemade cake) – this will be the delicious filling of your cake pops
- Cream cheese frosting – to mix with the cake crumbs so you can shape them
- 12 oz red candy melts – for the outside coating
- 6″ cookie sticks – the sticks to hold your cake pops while you eat them
- Sprinkles – for decorating 🙂
Valentine’s Cake Pops Recipe Instructions
Follow these simple step-by-step directions to have a set of your own cake pops in just 15 minutes!
Step 1
Mix cake batter according to the box instructions and bake cake then let it cool. Crumble cake in a large bowl.
Step 2
Add in your cream cheese frosting. Mix well with a hand mixer, spoon, or in the bowl of a stand mixer.
Step 3
Divide your cake mixture into 20 sections. With the palm of your hand, round out each portion into a ball shape.
Step 4
Place your cake pops on a sheet pan lined with wax paper or a piece of parchment paper, and place in the freezer for 15 minutes.
Step 5
While your cake pops are in the freezer, place all of your candy melts in a microwave-safe bowl. Microwave for 30-second intervals (stirring well in between each interval) until completely melted.
Step 6
Remove the cake pops from the freezer.
Step 7
Place your cake pop stick in the melted candy melts, then insert it into the cake pop. Then dip cake pops into the candy melts. Coat the pops completely with the melt.
On the side of the bowl, tap it gently with the stick removing any excess chocolate from the cake pop to create a smooth finish.
Step 8
Place the cake pop on the parchment paper. Immediately add your sprinkles on top of the cake pops before the chocolate dries. Let your Valentine’s cake pops set for 20-30 minutes so the candy coating fully hardens.
NOTE: I chose to orient these Valentine’s cake pops with the stick sticking up because I didn’t want to deal with a stand. If you have a cake pop stand (or styrofoam block) to hold your cake pops, you can put the cake pop on top with the stick coming down.
Step 9
Continue steps 6 – 8 until each cake pop is complete.
Aren’t they fun? Enjoy!
Easy Valentine’s Cake Pops Variations
Want to add some variety to this recipe? Here are some EASY ideas!
- Use different cake flavors – I chose to use vanilla cake to make it even easier to customize these Valentine cake pops, but you can use any flavor of cake that you love. Chocolate cake, strawberry cake, or even red velvet cake mix are great options!
- Play around with frosting flavors – I used cream cheese frosting, but white frosting, chocolate frosting, or chocolate buttercream would also be delicious!
- Change the shape – instead of shaping your Valentine’s cake pops into balls, make them heart-shaped cake pops!
- Personalize for any season or event – By simply changing the cake flavor, the color of the candy melts, or the sprinkles, you can easily adapt this recipe for birthday parties, other holidays, and more!
Valentine Cake Pops FAQs
If you love cake pops (and who doesn’t?), you’ll love making this cake pop recipe. Here are the answers to all your burning questions about making cake pops!
How To Shape Vanilla Cake Pops
You can easily make these into balls that are uniform with a cookie scoop, and it’s SO easy! Note – you can do it by hand too, but they are more likely to vary in size.
Want to change the shape?
Instead of rolling out individual pops, make fun shapes by using small cookie cutters, like hearts, eggs, etc.
If you want to try making other shapes, I HIGHLY recommend sticking with cookie cutters that have simple shapes. If you attempt anything with too much detail, the cake pops won’t maintain their shape.
How To Store These Valentine Cake Pops
Store cake pops in an airtight container for up to 5 days – if they even last that long!
They also freeze well in a freezer bag. Thaw at room temperature.
How do you decorate this Valentine Cake Pops recipe?
You could drizzle melted chocolate or candy melts over your cake pops, but the easiest way to decorate them is to add a few sprinkles or some edible glitter on top and you’re done (don’t you love easy?!).
Helpful Supplies For Making Valentine’s Cake Pops
- A cookie scoop will make dividing and shaping your cake balls so much easier.
- Completely optional, but if you’re making cake pops for a crowd, use one of these stands to display your works of art! This is the one I have and I love it!
- Check out these other stand options if you’d like something different: see all of the options here.
- A Wilton Chocolate Dipping spoon can come in very handy to help drain the chocolate or candy melt so you end up using less.
