Supplies Needed To Make A Campfire Handprint Craft
Gather these things to make this cute handprint art!
- Construction paper – yellow, orange, red, and brown
- White card stock – or white paper
- Pencil
- Scissors
- Glue or glue stick
- Child-safe markers (optional for decorating logs)
How To Make A Campfire Handprint Craft
Just follow these simple step-by-step instructions to make this easy-peasy handprint campfire craft!
Step 1 – Make The Handprints
Trace your child’s hand onto a piece of construction paper with a pencil. Make sure the fingers are spread out to create a great hand shape.
Repeat the hand tracing on yellow, orange, and red sheets of construction paper to make the flames for your campfire handprint craft.
Step 2 – Cut Out The Handprints
Use child-safe scissors to cut out each handprint (there will be three total).
SAFETY NOTE: If your kiddo is too young to use scissors safely, you can cut out the handprints yourself.
Step 3 – Prepare The Logs
Draw two log shapes (about 1.5 inches wide and 5-6 inches long) for your campfire handprint craft on brown construction paper.
Draw some texture lines or patterns with brown marker to mimic the look of real wood!
Cut out the logs.
Step 4 – Create The Campfire Base
Grab a piece of white card stock. Position the two brown logs in a crisscross (an ‘X’ shape) shape so that the logs intersect in the lower half of the paper.
Glue the logs into place.
Step 5 – Attach The Handprint Flames
Grab the red handprint and glue it at the top of the crisscrossed logs. Slightly angle the handprint so the fingers point up and look like flames.
Next, take the yellow handprint and glue it next to the red handprint with the fingers pointed upwards.
Finally, take the orange handprint and glue it over the top of the yellow and red handprints. Position the orange handprint in the center of the fire.
Your campfire handprint craft is done!
Easy Campfire Handprint Craft Variations
You can decorate the white card stock around the campfire with drawings of trees, stars, or a tent to create a camping scene!
Replace the paper “logs” with painted or colored popsicle sticks.
Or let the kids tear out strips of brown construction paper to use as logs.
Instead of cutting out handprints, use craft paint to paint handprints on the page (with red, orange, and yellow paint)!
Instead of cardstock or construction paper, try using paper plates as the background for your cute keepsake!
Turn it into a fall craft by building the fire on black construction paper and adding some stars in the sky or fall trees in the background!
