Prepare your cake mix as per the instruction on the box. Once the batter is mixed thoroughly, mix in 1/2 cup raspberry jam.
Step 3
Bake the cupcakes and allow them to cool completely.
Step 4
Using a cupcake corer or spoon, remove the center of the cupcake and fill it with raspberry jam.
Step 5
Now fill your piping bag with frosting and pipe the frosting on each cupcake using different patterns if you desire. Here are some examples:
Step 6
Finally, use the assorted sprinkles to decorate.
Dark Chocolate Raspberry Cupcakes Recipe Notes And Tips
- If you prefer not to use a piping bag and tip, simply spread the frosting on with a knife and decorate as desired.
- When making your cake mix, make sure that the refrigerated items that you need for your mix such as eggs, are at room temperature. This will help the ingredients blend more easily in the batter and help the cake mix to rise better.
- As you are filling the cupcake liners, be sure to only fill them about 2/3rd’s full. The cupcakes will rise while baking and you want to avoid them spilling over the side of the liners. The top of the cupcake will create a slight dome which will make it easy to decorate.
Variations Of Chocolate Raspberry Cupcakes To Try
- Drizzle some melted chocolate over the frosting and top it with a beautiful, fresh red raspberry.
- If you really love the flavor of raspberry and want to turn the raspberry flavor up a notch, add freeze-dried raspberries to the frosting. YUM!!!
- You can easily bake the cake mix in a cake pan as well, frost and decorate as you desire. You would just be skipping the step where you remove the center and place more jam in the cupcake.
- Use strawberry jam in place of the raspberry jam. Fill the center of the cupcakes with strawberry jam. Frost the cupcake with strawberry or dark chocolate frosting and garnish the top of the frosting with a fresh strawberry and/or sprinkles.
- Use raspberry frosting for a beautiful pop of color and flavor on the top of your cupcakes.
FAQs
Here are some common questions I see readers ask about our Dark Chocolate Raspberry Cupcakes recipe. If you don’t see your question below, please leave it in the comments so I can answer it!
Do my Chocolate Raspberry Cupcakes need to be kept refrigerated?
You can if you choose but they will keep for up to 3 – 4 days if you store them at room temperature in an air-tight container.
Can I prepare this recipe ahead of time?
The cupcakes can be made 1 day in advance. Store them, covered, at room temperature.
If you are making homemade frosting, you can also make it 1 day in advance and store it in the refrigerator in an air-tight container.
Immediately before serving, frost and decorate the cupcakes.
Can I freeze these Chocolate Raspberry Cupcakes?
Yes, you can. 🙂 Frosted or unfrosted cupcakes can be kept in the freezer for 2 – 3 months. Once you remove them from the freezer, you should allow them to thaw in the refrigerator overnight before serving.
What is the best jam to use for my Chocolate Raspberry Cupcakes?
I like all kinds and brands of jam, especially raspberry. I don’t think you can go wrong with any choice.
My only suggestion is that you find one that is seedless. I personally am not a huge fan of the raspberry seeds so when I go to make my purchase it would definitely be the seedless kind.
