My kids have LOVED the words of Seuss since they were tiny. The author by the name Dr. Seuss (his real name is Theodor Seuss Geisel), created many original stories and iconic characters with cheerful art that have had a lasting influence on generations of children.
His beloved early reader series books are filled with simple words, silly rhymes, cheerful art, and great supportive vocabulary – the perfect combination of kid appeal, making them ideal beginning reader books for young children. I truly believe they helped my boys develop a love of reading!
Every year for Dr. Seuss’s birthday, my kids celebrate him in school by reading his books, dressing up as his characters, and eating cute snacks inspired by his incredible imagination.
Since we LOVE Dr. Seuss and his silly rhymes so much, I decided to take it a step further as we prepare to celebrate his birthday! How about some fun rice krispie treats inspired by his book One Fish, Two Fish, Red Fish, Blue Fish?
It was one of my boys’ favorite beginner books when they were really little. We read it so much that I think I had it memorized at one point!
These custom rice krispie treats are super easy to make and so much fun that the kids will beg to help!
This One Fish Two Fish Dr. Seuss Rice Krispie snack is perfect for an after-school treat, a birthday celebration, a party, a playdate, or any other excuse you can find to bring out the cute and creative!
Pro Tip: If you’re short on time, skip making the Rice Krispy bars yourself and just use the store-bought ones.

Important Notes For One Fish Two Fish Recipe Success
- Make mobility easy – The parchment lined baking sheet works so that you can move the treats around while they dry.
- Avoid overcoating your treats – Because the treats are laid out on parchment paper, I would not recommend dipping the entire treat (front and back) into the chocolate, or else it will leave a thick (ugly) coating of chocolate sticking out the sides of the treat, if you use too much.
- Take care not to burn the chocolate – Melt in short increments in the microwave (or in a double boiler on the stove) to avoid that scorched chocolate taste.
- Purchase candy melts in your desired color – You can use white chocolate and color it, but buying already colored candy melts makes this recipe MUCH easier!
- Save any left-over chocolate to use later – It can be poured into a Ziplock bag immediately after use. Lay flat and let the chocolate harden. It can be stored in that Ziplock for reuse. Just melt it like you did originally.
One Fish Two Fish Rice Krispy Treat FAQs
It’s understandable to have a few questions when trying a new recipe. Here are the answers to some of the most popular questions about this recipe.
When sealed in an airtight container, these treats will only last a couple of days before getting hard.
If you have more than you can eat in a couple of days, you can freeze these treats. I would recommend removing the goldfish (or not adding them), though.
To freeze them, place them in a freezer bag in layers separated by wax paper. Freeze for up to 6 weeks.
How To Thaw: Let them sit at room temperature for 15 minutes before serving.
Aren’t these snacks SO cute? I love how they turned out, and my kids couldn’t wait to devour them!
