Iced Matcha Green Tea Latte: Starbucks Copycat Recipe
Make a delicious Iced Matcha Green Tea Latte right at home in about a minute. This iced matcha latte recipe is ideal for mornings or an afternoon pick-me-up! Creamy and refreshing, this Starbucks copycat is a breeze to make, tastes amazing, and costs a fraction of what you would spend at Starbucks.
We all need to spoil ourselves from time to time, right? My guilty pleasure is stopping at Starbucks or a fancy coffee shop and getting myself a delicious treat.
I am also a bit of a penny-pincher too. How can you have it all, you ask?
Starbucks can be super expensive especially if it is a regular stop (believe me, we’ve tested it), so making a copycat recipe at home is a great way to have what we love at a price that doesn’t blow the budget.
Our homemade version is SO easy, tastes AMAZING, and is ready at a fraction of the price!
And honestly, we know exactly what ingredients are going into our homemade iced matcha tea latte recipe so it is much healthier too (which I LOVE).
And you get to enjoy it in the comfort of your own home! (That’s my favorite way to have Starbucks matcha lattes!)
What is green tea?
Green tea is one form of tea from the Camellia sinensis plant. This is the same plant that gives us other types of tea like black, white, and oolong tea.
What is green tea matcha?
Matcha is made by grinding the young green tea leaves into a bright green fine powder.
And it has exploded in popularity in the last few years because it has many known health benefits such as boosting mood, providing all-day energy, promoting heart health, protecting the liver, lowering blood pressure, and even aiding in weight loss.
Plus, it has a high chlorophyll content, making it a powerful detoxifier, helping to eliminate both chemicals and heavy metals from the body and giving matcha powder cancer-fighting properties.
All you need to get started are a few simple ingredients that you already have on hand or that are easy to find at your favorite grocery store.
So what are you waiting for??? 😉

Iced Matcha Green Tea Latte Recipe Notes And Tips
- Keep in mind that there are different types of matcha powder. You can find Culinary Grade, Latte Grade, and Ceremonial Grade matcha options to choose from. For this recipe, I would suggest the Latte or Ceremonial Grade as the cooking grade has a more bitter taste and isn’t the vibrant green color that you will want for your drink.
- This recipe can easily be doubled or tripled and stored in a glass container with a lid in the refrigerator for up to 3 – 4 days.
- I would recommend using Whole or 2% milk for your latte since they have the right balance of fats, proteins, sugar, and water to make the latte smooth yet not too creamy. If you want a dairy-free version, try using unsweetened vanilla almond milk.
- A blender is the best tool to use for blending your latte, but you can also use an electric milk frother, hand mixer, or immersion blender to mix up your latte. Another option is to place the ingredients in a glass jar or container with a lid and shake vigorously.
- If you are using matcha in your beverage for the first time, reducing the amount of powder slightly and increasing the sweetener (ex: a touch of honey) just a bit might be a good idea. Matcha can be a little overpowering if you are not accustomed to it.
Variations Of Iced Matcha Green Tea Latte To Try
- Maple syrup, honey, or sugar are all delicious substitutes for the vanilla syrup.
- Give almond milk, oat milk, rice milk, or coconut milk a try in place of the traditional whole milk.
- If you like to try different flavors in your matcha tea, try adding some peanut butter, bananas, almonds, or blueberries.

Fix this easily by taking a mesh strainer and pouring the matcha latte through it to catch the clumps. Super easy and only takes a minute.
Leftovers of your homemade iced matcha latte will keep in the refrigerator for up to 3 – 4 days.
If you made extra to store for the rest of the week, do not add the ice cubes until you are ready to serve. This will keep the beverage from getting too watered down and will keep it smooth and creamy.
Matcha is ground green tea. Sweetened match has sugar added to the ground green tea.
Yes, Matcha does contain a substantial amount of caffeine although it does not have as much as coffee – if that helps give you a gauge. 😉
The good news is that there are caffeine-free options you can buy if that is what you prefer.
