You are either a die-hard lover of all things pumpkin and fall….or you’re not, would you agree?

I think I fall somewhere in the middle, if that’s allowed. 😉

I definitely enjoy indulging in everything pumpkin for a bit once the weather turns and there’s a brisk tinge in the air.

And one of my all-time favorite fall desserts has always been pumpkin pie. It’s one of those desserts that I make specifically on Thanksgiving and Christmas (although now I LOVE making these pumpkin pie bars to save on making crust).

Pumpkin dessert is my after-dinner reward for cooking all day. 😂

When I came up with this recipe, I knew it was going to be a heavenly treat I could indulge in anytime….not just in the fall or around the holidays. But it’s PERFECT for this time of year, so I’m sharing it with you NOW to catch all the pumpkin lovers!

This Pumpkin Smoothie is perfect for breakfast, a quick afternoon pick-me-up, or an after-dinner treat.

How To Make A Pumpkin Pie Smoothie

The best part about this recipe is that it is a healthy meal replacement or snack. Protein powder is a great nutritional way to help feel full longer, cut calories, and keep (or build) muscle tone.

And it tastes like pumpkin pie! It really is the best of both worlds: healthy and delicious!

Step 1

Add all the ingredients in the following order: ice, pumpkin puree, protein powder, banana, flax seeds, pumpkin pie spice, and almond milk.

Step 2

Blend on high or until smooth, approximately 1 – 2 minutes. You may find that you need to stop the blender and scrape the sides and stir. Then continue blending.

Step 3

Add a little additional milk if the smoothie is too thick for your liking. If it is not thick enough, add some additional ice and blend.

Pumpkin Pie Smoothie Recipe Notes And Tips

  • Add the liquid ingredients to the blender first. This will make it easier for the pumpkin pie smoothie to blend and mix thoroughly.
  • You can use frozen bananas in place of ice cubes to make the pumpkin pie smoothie ultra-creamy.
  • Make sure the banana is nice and ripe to add natural sweetness. If it is still a little green, you might get that slightly bitter taste in your smoothie.
  • Add in some honey, agave nectar, or maple syrup to sweeten the smoothie if it is not as sweet as you wish.

  • Depending on your taste, if you want to add in some honey or maple syrup for a little added sweetness.
  • Top with a little dollop of whipped cream, sprinkle with a touch of cinnamon and finish it off with a few chopped walnuts or pecans.

Pumpkin Pie Smoothie FAQs

If you have a question and don’t see it already answered below, please leave it for me in the comments!

What kind of blender should I use to make a pumpkin spice smoothie?

I used my Nutribullet Blender because it is a WHIZ at making smoothies and other blended drinks. I can’t recommend it enough!

However, if you don’t have one, you can totally use your regular blender (this one is my FAVORITE blender – and I’m hard on blenders, so I’ve tried a few 😉)

What if my Pumpkin Smoothie is too thick or too thin?

Not to worry! You can make sure you get it exactly to your liking by adding in a little additional milk if your smoothie is too thick. Or if the smoothie is not thick enough, just add in some more ice and blend.

Can I make this smoothie ahead of time?

Yes, you certainly can! Place whatever amount you would like to freeze in a mason jar or divide it up into an ice cube tray and freeze. If freezing for an extended time, be sure the smoothie mixture has a lid on it. Place the frozen cubes in a resealable freezer bag.

Once you are ready to thaw, place the smoothie mixture in the drinking glass and place it in the fridge for up to an hour. Give the mixture a shake or stir and enjoy!

Does canned pumpkin puree have to be cooked before using it in my smoothie?

Canned pumpkin puree has already been cooked prior to canning so it is ready to use in right out of the can.

What can I do with the leftover pumpkin puree?

Great question! You can freeze it in a freezer-safe container or you can freeze small amounts in an ice cube tray for single-serve smoothies in the future.
