The Ultimate Way to Make Baked Potatoes!
If you love baked potatoes…
Ok, I just have to say that my life changed when I discovered this gem of a kitchen hack!
Let me start by saying I love eating potatoes…baked potatoes, french fries, roasted potatoes, hash browns, you name it – I love them.
However, for years I have had a love/hate relationship with making baked potatoes.
The time in the oven…the fact that the oven heats up the house…the necessary planning ahead to make sure I’m around and able to keep an eye on the potatoes or get them into the oven at the correct time…the list of drawbacks to baking potatoes goes on.
I have tried cooking “baked” potatoes in the microwave and had to use so many methods in order to accomplish that: stabbing them so they don’t explode, using quilted potato bags that were popular in my area within the last few years, and more.
When cooking in the microwave, I always felt like I had to keep a close eye on them as they were cooking. The bag instructions say the potatoes will not explode during cooking, but listening to them whistle convinced me otherwise!
I had to stop them every 4 minutes and flip them to ensure even cooking. It was a bit of work, AND they weren’t as fluffy like true baked potatoes are.
Now I literally throw them into the slow cooker, turn it on and go! It really couldn’t be easier!
All I need now is about 5 minutes of prep time to wash and wrap the potatoes in aluminum foil. They are done in plenty of time for dinner and don’t require any crazy planning time.
Get a slow cooker that meets your needs
I have a couple of slow cookers…a 3 qt like this one and a larger 6 qt slow cooker. I make mybaked potatoes in the larger, 6 qt slow cooker. If you don’t have one of these, I personally love this one!

Gone are the days of making baked potatoes in the oven or even the microwave. Hello, slow cooker! This one cooking hack will save you tons of time and produce amazing fluffy baked potatoes!

- 4-6 russet potatoes
- 4-6 strips aluminum foil cut about 6-8 inches wide, depending on the size of the potatoes
- Wash potatoes and lightly dry.
- Wrap potatoes in a strip of aluminum foil so that each potato is completely wrapped in foil.
- Put the wrapped potatoes in your slow cooker. Put the lid on the slow cooker and turn it on. Cook on low for 6-8 hours and high for 4 hours.
- The potatoes are done when you pick them up and they are slightly soft to the touch. Unwrap them and stuff them with your favorite toppings!
