Variations To Try

If you want to change things up, here are a few ideas:

  • Fruit: change up the fruit and replace the strawberries with blueberries, other berries, or peaches.
  • Cream cheese: make this Strawberry French Toast Bake extra indulgent by adding 6 oz of plain cream cheese.
  • Make it savory: if you’re a meat lover, replace the strawberries with diced ham, cooked sausage, or even bacon crumbles.
  • Powdered Sugar: after your french toast casserole is done, dust the top with some powdered sugar. It’ll add a little extra sweetness and make it look even more elegant. Perfect for a holiday!
  • Fruit syrup: swap out your maple syrup with your favorite fruit-flavored syrup.

If you want to make a healthier version of this Strawberry French Toast Casserole, try using these tips.

  • Swap out the white french bread for whole-wheat french bread.

FAQs About Strawberry French Toast Bake

Here are a few common questions I see from readers about this Strawberry French Toast Casserole.

What is the secret to good french toast?

When. it comes to making amazing french toast casserole, there are just two things you need to remember:

  • Use Day Old Bread – French toast was originally made with stale bread, and it works better that way because slightly stale bread holds up to an egg batter bath better. Leave your fresh bread slices out for a day or two to get stale.
  • Let The Bread Soak In The Egg Batter – In order to produce a creamy smooth french toast bake, the bread needs to soak in the egg batter for at least 2 hours. Overnight is best.

Why is my baked French toast soggy?

The too most common reasons that French toast gets soggy is that there’s too much dairy added to the custard. With too much dairy, the bread won’t crisp up as it cooks.

How long does this recipe last?

Once your Strawberry French Toast Bake cools completely, you can store any leftovers in an airtight container in the fridge for up to 5 days. Note that your casserole will likely lose some of its crispiness.

When you want to enjoy your leftovers, rest assured that it reheats well! Simply warm it up in the microwave for a few seconds (~45 seconds) or reheat it in the oven at 350 for about 10-15 minutes, until it’s warm.
