Must-Have Self-Care Routine Ideas To Help Busy Moms Relax

When you’re feeling stressed, washed-out, or grumpy, it’s time for a little self-care. One of the most relaxing (and cheapest) self-care routine ideas for moms is to enjoy a home spa treatment!

Self-care…many moms are bad at it because it sounds selfish. And moms are anything but selfish, right? We care for our children, our partners, our parents, siblings, friends and family. Taking time to care for ourselves can feel indulgent in a wrong way.

Sound familiar? If so, it’s time to break the cycle here and now because that’s just a lie we tell ourselves.

The truth is that practicing self-care is vitally important to our health and happiness! And if you don’t utilize self-care as much as you could, it’s time to change that.

How Busy Moms Can Adopt a Self-Care Routine

Just like anything else we do in our very busy schedules, fitting self-care into your day requires scheduling it in. If you’re anything like me, “winging it” just means I get busy doing something ‘important’ and blow off my self-care.

Unfortunately, when I blow off doing my self-care, I get run down, grumpy, and sometimes even sick.

It’s like the example of the oxygen mask on an airplane. If those oxygen masks deploy, passengers are instructed to first get oxygen themselves before helping to give oxygen to someone else, right?

That’s self-care! In order to take care of and help other people, you FIRST have to take care of yourself! (it was seriously a huge ‘ah-ha’ moment for me when I first heard this years ago)

Self-care is the same exact concept for busy moms. When you’re a mom, so are so busy taking care of others and your home (and maybe a job too) that it can all leave you feeling depleted – like you have given everything to others and have nothing left to give. #amiright

Since self-care is about doing things regularly that help you recharge and feel your best, it’s important to make them a part of your day – every day in some way, if possible.

Here are some self-care routine ideas that you can try using. Any of these ideas can be calming, relaxing, and rejuvenating (which is the whole point, right?):

  • Cuddle with a fur baby (dog or cat)
  • Take a nap
  • Read a book (or listen to an audiobook)
  • Garden
  • Take a walk
  • Listen to a podcast
  • Meditate
  • Enjoy a spa day

Home Spa Treatment Supplies That May Be Helpful

Before I get into all the home spa possibilities, here are a few things that may make creating your own home spa a little more enjoyable.

Essential Oils

This is one of the MOST important aspects of calming and rejuvenating self-care. I love them because they are natural fragrances and not produced in some chemical laboratory.

Make sure to use only high-quality therapeutic grade oils. Then, pick any scents you like and use them in….everything!

Soy Wax Flakes

Used when making candles and even creams and lotions, get high-quality wax flakes. You can buy the wax flakes on their own or you can buy them as part of a set that includes wicks.

Witch Hazel

It’s the primary ingredient in face toner, which is SUPER easy to make. I love this brand of witch hazel for anything I need.

Foot Spa

The DIY foot soaks that I mention only require a pan of water of some sort to soak your feet in. However, if you really want to pamper your footsies, a foot spa with heat, jets, and massagers just might be the ticket (or an awesome gift idea!).

For the longest time, I never paid attention to face toner. Never bought it. Never used it. Definitely never made my own. I’m just kind of a no-fuss gal. and using face toner seemed – well, fuzzy. An extra step I didn’t need. But now as I’m getting older and appreciating my skin a little more, I’m loving face toner.
