Zombie Guts Cinnamon Rolls Ingredients
Below I’ve included all of the ingredients you’ll need to make Halloween rolls. Instead of making the dough from scratch (and dealing with mixing the dough and using a mixer with a dough hook), we’re keeping this SUPER simple by using cinnamon roll dough!
Gather these items. Then, keep reading to find out how to make them and grab some tips and tricks for making cinnamon roll intestines.
- 1 can of cinnamon rolls – see notes in instructions
- Frosting from the can of cinnamon rolls
- 20 drops of red food coloring
How To Make Halloween Zombie Guts Cinnamon Rolls
This recipe is SUPER easy! You aren’t making cinnamon rolls – just taking the dough and shaping it to look like intestines. But no matter how it looks, that mouthwatering combination of brown sugar and cinnamon is irresistible!
Step 1
Remove the dough from the can.
Set the frosting to the side.
Preheat the air fryer to 300 degrees.
Step 2
If buns are rolled, unravel each bun and stretch it out into a strip.
Note: Some canned cinnamon rolls have stamped rolls and others have rolled buns. Either will work well for this recipe. If your can has stamped cinnamon rolls, use a paring knife to cut through the bun along the stamp to “unravel” the bun. Stretch the dough out into a strip (or long roll).
Step 3
Spray the air fryer basket with oil (if needed) and coil each strip to resemble an intestinal path pinching together the ends.
The cinnamon roll will expand, so the space between the coils is ok.
Step 4
Cook at 300°f for 10 minutes.
Step 5
While cooking, mix the red food dye into the glaze ingredients until you achieve a deep, rich red color.
Note: Depending on the type of dye you use, you will use more or fewer drops.
Step 6
Microwave the frosting for 15-20 seconds to thin it out, this will make the simulated blood look better.
Step 7
Remove the cooked cinnamon roll gently. If you have an air fryer basket with a removable tray, remove the tray and slide the roll off.
If you don’t, you can divide the roll into sections and piece it back together on a plate for presentation.
Step 8
Pour the red frosting over the cinnamon roll guts, add some spooky decorations, and enjoy!

Bloody Intestines Cinnamon Rolls Tips And Tricks
If you’ve never made these before, here are some tips to help ensure they turn out perfectly!
Use Generic Canned Cinnamon Rolls
You can use any brand, or flavor of canned cinnamon rolls (in the refrigerated section) for this recipe, but the store brands tend to unravel easier than the name-brand Pillsbury kind (which is more of the stamped variety).
The Pillsbury brand CAN work, but they tend to be a little more difficult to break apart and shape.
Use A Large Casserole Dish For Large Intestines
If you want large and in charge “zombie guts,” use the jumbo-sized canned cinnamon rolls. Then put them in a casserole baking dish (like this 9×13 casserole dish) so they have room to really expand.
When prepared this way, the zombie guts will look bigger and remain more intact when baked. I’ve also found they turn out softer/gooier when baked this way.
Use Gel Food Coloring
The red gel food coloring that you find at Michael’s or Amazon will give MUCH better, vibrant-looking results than standard liquid food coloring.
If you must use liquid food coloring, you’ll need to use much more food coloring to achieve an equal-looking result. As a result, reduce the amount of milk to only 1 Tablespoon.
Cinnamon Roll Zombie Guts FAQs
Here are a couple of questions that I often see readers ask about making zombie guts Halloween cinnamon rolls. If you have a question that you don’t see answered below, please leave it in the comments so I can answer it!
Should I use homemade cinnamon rolls or store-bought cinnamon rolls?
You can certainly use a homemade cinnamon rolls recipe if you prefer. However, Halloween is such a busy holiday, I like to keep it SUPER simple by using store-bought cinnamon rolls.
What’s the best pan for Halloween cinnamon roll guts?
I recommend using either a Half-Sheet Size Baking Sheet or 9×13 Glass Baking Dish.
You can make them either way, and they’ll LOOK and TASTE amazing. The difference will come down to texture. If you use a sheet pan, your zombie guts will be a little crispier.
The baking dish version will yield bloody guts cinnamon rolls that are more soft and gooey.
How do I store leftover cinnamon roll zombie guts?
IF you have any zombie guts leftover, store them in an airtight container at room temperature. They’ll stay fresh for up to 3 days.
You can reheat individual servings in 15-20 second intervals in the microwave.
How can I decorate these Halloween zombie intestines?
- Halloween themed sprinkles
- Faux bugs (bugs, spiders, roaches, etc.)
- Gummy worms
- Candy googly eyes
- Serve with Skeleton Hands
How do I serve these zombie guts cinnamon rolls?
I recommend serving them warm. Eggs, fruit, and and breakfast meat are terrific accompaniments!
And don’t forget to add fun faux Halloween decorations to make them look even spookier and more festive.
Your little monsters will LOVE these zombie guts! Be sure to let them help make them, too!
