Uno is a classic fun card game for families that’s been fun for decades! The goal is simple: empty your hand by matching cards by number or color before the other players do.
Considering how easy it is to learn and fast to play, it’s no surprise that family-friendly Uno is the number one Amazon best-seller for card games.
We started playing Uno as a family when my youngest was 2. Although he was a little young to really understand how to play, it helped him learn his colors and numbers!
I still keep it in my purse and pull it out to play while we wait for our food at restaurants.
Now there’s a large selection of games in the UNO family – DOS, Retro, etc.
2. Kids Create Absurdity
- Age range: 7+
- Players: 4 or more
This fun and easy card game is set up like apples to apples so you should have at least 4 to play. The only thing I would say is that your family has to have some appreciation for bathroom humor or you won’t enjoy Kids Create Absurdity.
Because of this, it’s not a game you bring out and play with other people unless you know them well.
There were small giggles, loud laughs, unstoppable laughs, and even tears from laughing. Card games for families like this are a definite keeper for our family gatherings.
3. Set Card Games For Kids

- Players: 2 or more
Set is all about speed and doesn’t require taking turns or using strategies. The first person to see a set of three matching cards calls out “set” and then takes those cards from the communal pile.
The cards can be matched by shape, color, or number, and the person at the end of the game with the most sets wins.
4. Exploding Kittens
- Age range: 7+
- Players: 2 to 5
This silly, family-friendly card game is like nothing you’ve ever played before.
Exploding Kittens was one of the most-backed projects in Kickstarter history, and it involves a lot of luck as well as some strategy while still being quick and easy to learn.
The whole family will love Exploding Kittens because it’s unlike any other card game.
5. Llama Drama

The rules for Llama Drama make it easy to pick up quickly and introduce to new players. I was looking for something similar to how easy Uno is.
Games typically last 5 – 15 minutes and include enough strategy and luck for a recipe of great fun. Although it feels similar to Uno, there are a few twists to really spice things up.
I’ve had a great time playing, and our family has had nothing short of a fantastic time playing this together!
6. Monopoly Deal

Modeled after the classic board game, the card game Monopoly Deal is just as fun as the original version, with several surprising twists that make it a frequent replay winner.
The rules are easy to understand and it’s great for 2 to 5 people (ideal 3 or 4). It’s perfect for a quick game night since it has all the classic pieces of Monopoly while only taking 15 to 20 minutes to play.
7. Skip-Bo

This game is FUN!! Skip-Bo is a quick and easy family fun card game to learn, and it doesn’t take much time to play.
You can play several rounds of the game in a couple of hours. Each game is different than the last.
This is one of those games every family should have and one you will enjoy for years! Try Skip-Bo Jr for kids as young as 5.
8. Blink

Blink is the game of fast matching and sharp observation! You match cards by color, shape, or number in a race to see who runs out of cards first. The first person to play all the cards from their draw pile wins.

10. Rat a Tat Cat

Cherished by elementary-age kids, Rat a Tat Cat is one game that has appealed to all of our kids beginning at age 4, an age when there are few good games beyond classics like Chutes and Ladders or Candyland.
Part matching, part memory, and totally wholesome entertainment, Rat a Tat Cat is the rare family-friendly card game where less is actually more!
11. Phase 10

- Players: 2 to 6
The makers of UNO created this rummy-type card game with a challenging and exciting twist! The object of Phase 10 is to be the first player to complete 10 varied Phases-two sets of three, one run of seven, seven cards of one color, and more. I was hooked on it after one game!
Because each round of play has a different objective, the game really holds our interest. I must admit, though, I have a hard time remembering what phase is next, so I have to use the handy card that spells out the 10 phases!
The game is easy to learn, and after a few rounds, you feel confident about strategies that are helpful.

12. SKYJO
- Age range: 8+
- Players: 2 to 8
I was skeptical about this game because it sounded so much like others (Uno, etc). And while it IS similar, I find it’s more fun than other games.
With a very easy concept, SKYJO is not only fun but it moves quickly. Easy enough card game for a six-year-old to play, but intriguing enough that adults love it too.
It has very quickly become one of our favorite games and was the first choice requested by family members on our latest camping trip.
I love that it’s a game that our entire family can enjoy together, and we all love the simple additions that make it interesting, like the color scheme.
13. Not Parent Approved
- Age range: 8+
- Players: 4 to 10
Not Parent Approved is inspired by Cards Against Humanity, but 100% family-friendly. Designed to reintroduce a love of tabletop games for a screen-obsessed generation.
Attention-grabbing. Easy-to-learn. Quick, simple play. Some of my favorite qualities in card games for families!
One quick word of warning: some of the cards may be more appropriate for kids older than 8…say, closer to 12 or maybe 13. If you get these cards, you can always pull out the cards that you feel are best suited for older kids.
14. 3 Up 3 Down
- Age range: 7+
- Players: 2 to 6
3 Up 3 Down is one of the best fun and easy card games! It’s quick to learn and play. There’s a mix of skill as well as a lot of luck at the end which makes it entertaining and fun – right until the last card is played.
We watched the video to learn how to play (3 minutes) so we knew how to set up, play, and referred to the rules as we went along. Game speed is terrific!

16. Solitaire

Solitaire is an extremely popular card game that can be played with a standard 52-card deck or online. The objective of the game is to move all the cards from the tableau (the main playing area) to the foundation piles, which are located in the upper right-hand corner of the screen. The foundation piles must be built up in suits from Ace to King.
The tableau is made up of seven piles of cards, with the first pile containing one card, the second pile containing two cards, the third pile containing three cards, and so on. The top card in each pile is face up, with the remaining cards face down.
The game is won when all the cards have been moved to the foundation piles in the correct order. However, the game can also be lost if there are no more moves to be made and the player has not yet won. Solitaire is an entertaining and mentally enriching card game that is simple to learn and provides endless entertainment.
17. Hearts

- Players: 1-4
Hearts is a popular trick-taking card game that is played with a standard deck of 52 playing cards. The game is typically played by four players, although variations for three players and single-player modes online exist.
The objective of the game is to have the lowest score at the end of the game. Players score points by taking certain cards in tricks, with the goal being to avoid taking any cards that score points. Players must strategize to avoid taking any heart cards or the queen of spades (worth 13 points) while also trying to take tricks to control the play of the game.
At the end of each hand, players score points based on the cards they have taken in tricks. The game is typically played to a certain score, such as 100 points, with the player who has the lowest score at the end of the game being declared the winner.
