Out Of This World Easy Galaxy Cupcakes
These galaxy cupcakes are a breeze to make with colored frosting and various candies and jimmies to create all the planets and stars. Galaxy-themed cupcakes are “out of this world!”
National Stargazing Day is May 7th, and International Astronomy Day following close behind on May 15th. Then there are meteor showers that we get every year.
I remember gazing at the stars when I was a kid with my dad. It was (and still is) one of my favorite things to do!
What I love about star gazing is the wonder of the stars and all the unknowns that space holds. As a side note, in a total proud nerd moment, the kid in me who watched William Shatner as James T. Kirk in Star Trek loved watching him go up in space.
I am SO happy with the way these galaxy cupcakes turned out! Aren’t they adorable?

Galaxy cupcakes recipe tips:
- You can use any cupcake recipe that you like. I used a store-bought cupcake mix to make this recipe even easier.
- Make sure NOT to over-mix the batter so that the cupcakes rise well (and don’t go flat in the middle).
- If you choose to color white frosting instead of buying colored frosting, Be careful when working with gel food coloring. It WILL stain your hands, counter, or the floor! I recommend wearing silicone gloves and covering work and floor surfaces if you work with gel food coloring.
- Feel free to experiment with other colors that you like. You don’t need to follow this recipe “to the letter.”
FAQs
Here are a couple of questions I frequently see readers ask about making these galaxy-themed cupcakes. If you have a question but don’t see it answered below, please leave it in the comments!
How do you make Galaxy frosting?
There are a couple of different ways you can go about doing this. I prefer using already colored frosting and mixing colors together to get fun swirls. I find this easier than coloring white frosting with gel food coloring.
However, if you already have white frosting and food coloring, or you just want to make the personalized colored frosting, you can go that route too!
