DIY Glitter Easter Eggs Supplies
- Eggs – boiled and cooled
- Fine Glitter – various colors
- Elmer’s Glue – or craft glue
- Paint Brush
- Baggies – quart
- Hairspray – optional
How To Make Glittery Easter Eggs
Step 1 – Prepare Eggs and Supplies
Put a small amount of Elmer’s glue into a small bowl or container.
Before proceeding, be sure that the boiled eggs are completely dry and cooled.
Add the desired amount of each glitter color to a bag. Each color should be in a separate bag. Do not combine and mix colors.

Step 2 – Paint Glue on an Egg
Using a paintbrush, coat an egg with a thin layer of glue. Make sure to cover the entire surface of the egg.

Step 3 – Cover the Egg with Glitter
Carefully drop the coated egg into a bag of glitter. Roll the egg through the glitter.
When you are happy with the amount of glitter on the eggs, leave the egg in the bag and set it down on a paper plate to catch any excess glitter.

Step 4 – Cover any Missed Spots
Carefully take the glitter dipped Easter eggs out of the plastic bag. If the eggs are not covered to your satisfaction, use the paintbrush to apply glue to the spots that need more coverage. Place back into the bag and roll the egg through the glitter.
Step 5 – Keep the Glitter in Place
When you are satisfied with the appearance of the glittered egg spray it with hairspray, spray adhesive, or brush Mod Podge on the entire egg. Allow it to dry.
The hairspray (or Mod Podge) helps to prevent the glitter from falling off the egg.
Continue the process with all the boiled eggs. HAVE FUN coloring eggs with all the bright colors!

Glitter Easter Egg Notes And Expert Tips
- I prefer to use hairspray on the glittered eggs to keep the glitter from falling off. You can find a cheap brand of hairspray and it will work great.
- I strongly suggest you NOT add a layer of glue on top of the glitter to secure it. I will make the glitter goopy and will not dry smoothly.
- The small flecks of glitter work much better than the larger pieces. The larger pieces do not cover the eggs as evenly and completely.
- Shaking the glitter on the eggs proved to be disastrous because it did not coat the eggs as thoroughly and smoothly.
- Choose a glue that is not super thick. I prefer Elmer’s or a craft clue. If you think the glue is too dense and doesn’t spread nicely with a thin layer, add a couple of drops of water and stir until you reach the desired consistency.
How To Display and Enjoy Glitter Easter Eggs
Decorate – Place them in a beautiful bowl or basket with the flowers and greenery to make a centerpiece on your Easter table.
Gifts – Add them to your little one’s Easter baskets or assemble them in a basket or bowl and give them to the elderly neighbors in your community.

Variations Of Easter Glitter Eggs To Try
- Color the eggs the traditional way first, then paint glue on in a fun pattern such as a heart or swirls before placing them in glitter.
- Glitter only half the egg for a fun twist.
- Use the glue to paint a polka dot pattern on the eggs.
- Dip half the egg in one color glitter and the other half in a different color. So pretty!
- Use this process on plastic Easter eggs!
- Use chunkier glitter instead of fine glitter for a different look.
Glitter Easter Eggs Storage
If you plan to eat the glitter Easter eggs, place them in the refrigerator for up to 5 – 7 days.
I wouldn’t recommend leaving them out of the fridge for more than a few hours or they will start to stink.
Glitter Easter Eggs FAQs
Will the same method for glitter Easter eggs work on brown eggs and plastic eggs?
Yes, it will most definitely work on brown eggs. And it also works on plastic eggs and faux eggs – which are helpful with the cost of eggs being so high right now!
Can I still eat the boiled, glittered eggs?
Technically, yes!!! 🙂 Be careful not to swallow too much glitter or you could make your poo sparkly. HA
What is the best way to clean up the glitter when finished with this project?
Great question! The vacuum cleaner and a lint roller will become your best friends when you finish with these glitter Easter eggs.
Kids love glitter but parents are not too keen on the clean-up. It might take a while but keep vacuuming and use your lint roller to go over all the surfaces such as chairs, floors, AND your kids. 🤣

How To Make Glitter Easter Eggs
Mix up traditional egg dying by making Glitter Easter Eggs! Skip all the dye and hard work (and mess) without skipping all the fun!
Ingredients
- Boiled Eggs
- Fine Glitter
- Elmer’s Glue
- Paint Brush
- Baggies, quart size
- Hairspray, optional
Instructions
- Place a bit of Elmer’s glue or white craft glue in a small bowl.
- Make sure your boiled eggs are nice and dry.
- Add some of each color of glitter to a quart baggie. Do not mix the colors. I added only a couple of tablespoons, but filling the bag up a bit more, if possible, would be better.
- Use the paint brushes to coat one egg at a time in glue. Make sure you don’t miss a spot!
- Gently drop the coated egg in the bag of glitter of your choosing and gently roll it around in the glitter, being careful to not scrape it against the sides of the bag too much.
- Once the egg is nice and coated, leave it in the bag and lay it flat for about 2 minutes.
- Gently remove the egg from the bag. If there are any spots that didn’t get coated, gently apply glue in just those spots and place it back in the back. Repeat the process.
- Once coated to your liking, spray the egg with hairspray, if you’re using it and gently sit it down without scraping the sides and let it dry for about 8 minutes. The hairspray helps the glitter to not shed nearly as much. Enjoy your glitter eggs!
