Acorn Handprint Craft Keepsake (Free Template)

This handprint acorn craft is a simple craft that’s perfect for kids of all ages to make. Freeze this moment in time by making and displaying your child’s handprint for an adorable craft to display during the autumn season.

As the weather turns colder and it gets harder to go outside to burn energy, we turn to making fall crafts. Craft activities are a great way to work on fine motor skills.

Younger children will love seeing their little handprints turn into cute little acorns. It also makes a great keepsake or gift for grandparents!

Older kids should be able to make this without any help. However, younger kids may need help painting their hands, cutting out the shapes, and tracing the edges.

So next time it’s too cold to go outside, curl up with your kids and enjoy some fall crafting fun. Also, be sure to check out all of our fall crafts for preschoolers for more ideas!

You’ll love this great craft for several reasons, including:

  • It’ll preserve little hands to enjoy long after little hands grow into big hands (I love handprint crafts!)
  • Kids love seeing their handprints turned into recognizable items!
  • The final product is a fun to display around the house

As a side note, I highly recommend serving some cute Chocolate Peanut Butter Acorn Treats as a delicious acorn-themed snack!

Supplies Needed

You just need a few simple craft materials to make these adorable handprint acorns!

  • Construction paper – sheets of white, brown, pink, and your favorite color as a background
  • Black Marker
  • Glue
  • Scissors – your child’s age and skills should determine whether to use regular scissors or safety scissors.
  • Craft paint – brown paint
  • Paint brush or paint sponge

How To Make An Acorn Handprint Craft

  1. Make the handprint – Take a paintbrush or paint sponge and use it to paint your child’s hand. Then take that hand and press it down on the white paper to create the handprint. When it dries, cut it out. Then outline it with a marker.
  2. Make the smile – Use the marker to make a smile on the handprint.
  3. Cut out the template pieces – Trace them on their corresponding colored construction paper. Cut them out and add the details (eyes, criss-cross lines on the acorn cap).
  4. Outline the templates using the marker.
  5. Turn this handprint into a cute acorn – Attach the templates one by one to the handprint.

Handprint Acorn Craft Expert Notes and Tips

  • If you’re doing this with very young kids who can’t use scissors yet, help them cut out the pieces (or cut them out for them).
  • Young kids may need help with the outlining too.
  • Since paint can get messy, you may want to let young kids wear old clothes or an apron/smock.
  • If you want to skip the paint mess, kids can trace their hands on brown construction paper, and you can use that for the handprint – still super cute!
  • Feel free to use brown cardstock instead of construction paper if that’s what you have!
