You can also make it interactive and do it together while having some interesting conversations. Here are some ideas of things you can ask while your kids are playing with their playdough numbers to make them think a little deeper:

  • What does three of something look like?
  • Is six fewer or more than four?
  • How many do I have if I have 1 and then get 3 more?

How To Use Playdough Mats In The Classroom

Calling all teachers! These number playdough mats are a great resource for your classroom. Here are some ideas of ways to use them with your class:

Have them trace the letters with their finger or a dry erase marker. Then, use any kind of math counter (buttons, mini erasers, baby bears, bingo markers, etc) in the cubes to count to the corresponding number on the mat.

Use these counting mats with small groups of students, as a station during more structured learning time or as an activity on rainy days or when looking for fun ideas before breaks.

Also, students can work on number sequencing and writing skills.
