The truth is that I love them but I don’t necessarily like to make them at home. Using the standard oven always seemed like it took forever and I just didn’t have the patience.
Well, now there is that nifty invention they call the air fryer. For this recipe, you can use the air fryer from start to finish – and it gives amazing results.
Now honestly, baking the potatoes in the air fryer doesn’t necessarily take less time but it definitely helps ramp up the crispness of the potato.
And it just FEELS faster and easier.
If you love the traditional version of twice baked potatoes, you will definitely love using your air fryer.
Let your family put the finishing touches on the potato halves before you pop them back in the air fryer for the last 5 minutes.
These will quickly become a family favorite for a weekday side dish, holiday meal, or a tasty snack.

Air Fryer Twice Baked Potatoes Recipe Notes And Tips
- Once the potato is done cooking in the air fryer, you can test the doneness by sticking a knife through the potato to make sure it is cooked all the way through. If it is not, bake in the air fryer for 2 – 3 minutes longer.
- Just a friendly reminder to use tongs while turning or removing the potatoes from the air fryer basket. The basket is going to be very hot so remember to use caution.
- Plan ahead and bake up a few extra potatoes. Freeze the extras which will save you time for another meal in the future.
Variations Of Air Fryer Twice Baked Potatoes To Try
- For a healthier version of these scrumptious potatoes, use Greek yogurt instead of the heavy cream.
- Make your twice baked potato uniquely your own by adding your favorite toppings. Some of my favorites would include diced onion, green onions, broccoli or black beans.
- Change up the protein. Add ground beef with taco seasoning. OR shrimp!!! Who doesn’t love shrimp, right?!?!
- Give them a Mexican flair. Chili, salsa and melted cheese are a few other options to put on your potatoes but you might want to add these toppings after you pull the potatoes out of the air fryer.
- Change up the cheese. If you want to try something other than cheddar cheese, you should consider gouda, swiss or mozzarella. YUMMY!!!

FAQs
How do I prevent the potato skins from falling apart?
Try not to scoop too much of the flesh out of the potato half. Leave about 1/4″ of the flesh inside to help the potato hold its shape.
Do I need to put oil on the skin of the potato before baking?
No, with this recipe it is not necessary. The air fryer does a great job of cooking the potato without having to use any oil.
How long will the Air Fryer Twice Baked Potatoes keep in the refrigerator?
You can store them in the refrigerator in an air-tight container for 4 – 5 days.
What is the best way to re-heat the Air Fryer Twice Baked Potatoes?
The beauty of the air fryer is that you can just pop them back into the air fryer basket and heat them up for 2 – 3 minutes to re-crisp the skin and warm up the filling.
Can I freeze the Air Fryer Twice Baked Potatoes?
Yes, absolutely!!! Put them in a freezer-safe container and they can be frozen for up to 2 months. Once you remove them from the freezer, allow them to thaw in the refrigerator overnight then reheat in the oven or air fryer.
