Ingredients Needed For Nutella Edible Playdough

  • Nutella Hazelnut Spread – Nutella has a chocolatey flavor with a hint of hazelnut. Kids go crazy for this stuff.
  • Powdered Sugar – powdered sugar is the binding agent that makes it pliable enough to eat.
  • Mixing Bowl – the size of the mixing bowl will depend on how much you want to make. I would start with one for the basic recipe first before doubling.
  • Silicone Spatula
  • Wax Paper – parchment paper, paper bag, Silpat mat, or aluminum foil are other good options.
  • Optional: Cookie Cutters and Sprinkles

How to Make Nutella Edible Playdough

The process for making this edible playdough is super simple – it’s really just a matter of 1, 2, 3!

Step 2

Once the sugar and Nutella are somewhat mixed together, begin kneading the dough with your hands to incorporate the sugar fully.

Keep in mind the dough will be sticky at this point.

Step 3

Now add the remaining sugar and continuously knead until the rest of the sugar is completely mixed in. Now the dough will be smooth and pliable, not sticky.

Edible Playdough Recipe Notes And Tips

If the dough becomes too sticky or greasy after playing with it for some time, sprinkle with a small bit of powdered sugar and knead again to incorporate sugar.

Nutella Play Dough will keep in the refrigerator for up to a week. Bring it to room temperature before you begin playing with it.

If you decide to add sprinkles to the edible playdough, let the dough cool completely before adding in the sprinkles. This will keep the sprinkles from melting.

Variations to Try

Try adding different types of sprinkles into the edible playdough to add color and texture.

Also try setting out marshmallows, M&M’s, chocolate chips or other types of candy confections along with cookie cutters.

Let your kids cut out all different kinds of shapes and decorate (ie. red and green sprinkles on a Christmas tree, chocolate chips as the eyes and nose on a moon, etc).

FAQs

I find that I often have questions anytime I try a new recipe. If you’re the same way, here are some common questions about this edible playdough recipe.

How long will the Nutella Edible Playdough keep?

Well, how long will it last and how long will it keep are entirely two different answers. 😉 It will keep in an air-tight container or baggie for up to 1 week.

However, I’m not sure it will last that long before the kiddos enjoy the edible part of this fun recipe.

Why is my play dough sticky?

It likely has too much moisture in it from the Nutella – which is normal. Just add a bit more powdered sugar until it gets back to the consistency you desire.

Can I use Nutella if I have nut allergies?

My suggestion would be to err on the side of caution and find a different recipe. I wouldn’t want anyone getting sick unnecessarily.

It really does not matter. The only difference you might notice is that the metal cutters will provide a sharper cut in the dough.
