Eggnog Cookies Notes And Tips

  • Eggnog – I want these cookies to be family friendly, so I use non-alcoholic eggnog in these cookies. When I need to save time, I’ll use a store-bought eggnog. But when I REALLY want to make these cookies stand out, I use my homemade eggnog.
  • If you use salted butter, eliminate the extra salt from the recipe.
  • Nutmeg – What kind of nutmeg should you use? I’ll admit that I often use ground nutmeg to save time. However, if you buy whole nutmeg and grind it yourself, you’ll get the best flavor!

Variations To Try

  • If you want a boozy quality, add a teaspoon of rum extract to your dough before baking.

Make Eggnog Cookies Gluten-Free

To make these cookies gluten-free, replace the all-purpose flour with a gluten-free all-purpose flour mix. NOTE: the texture of the baked cookies will be slightly different.

Make Them Diary-Free

If you want to make these cookies dairy-free, replace the eggnog with dairy-free eggnog (dairy-free eggnog) and replace the butter with vegan butter.

Eggnog Cookies Storage

These cookies are good for up to 3 or 4 days if kept stored in an airtight container at room temperature. They do not need to be placed in the fridge.

Alternatively, they will stay fresh for up to a week if stored in an airtight container in the fridge.

Freezing Eggnog Cookies

You can freeze these cake-like cookies! Let the fully cool after baking, then store in an airtight container (or freezer bag) for up to 3 months. Wait to frost them until after you thaw the cookies.

When you’re ready to enjoy your frozen eggnog cookies, set them out on the counter and let them thaw. Once they’re thawed, you can frost and enjoy them!
