What is Halloween Scavenger Hunt?
A Halloween Scavenger Hunt is a fun and interactive activity where participants search for hidden items or clues related to the Halloween theme.
These hunts can occur indoors, outdoors, or a combination of both.
Benefits of a Halloween Scavenger Hunt for Kids
- Engaging activity: Halloween scavenger hunts are a great way to keep kids entertained during the spooky season.
- Encourages teamwork: Kids can work in teams during scavenger hunts, which promotes collaboration and communication.
- Builds observational skills: Think of scavenger hunts as real-life “Where’s Waldo?” games. Kids get to learn how to stay focused and look for certain items among other items.

Halloween Scavenger Hunt for Different Ages
Planning a Halloween scavenger hunt can be a fun activity for people of all ages. Here are some ideas to tailor the scavenger hunt for the whole family so everyone has a spooky good time.
- For younger kids, I recommend letting them go at their own pace. You can encourage them to find a row of images or see if they can scout out the entire board. Bonus points for anyone who wears a Halloween costume while doing this activity!
- Older kids (tweens and teens) would enjoy a slightly more challenging scavenger hunt. I like to challenge them to find all the different Halloween items on the card WITH A TIME LIMIT for a little friendly competition!
- Make it a neighborhood Halloween scavenger hunt, and don’t allow kids to mark off more than one image from each house you visit!
- Do this activity at a local pumpkin patch or corn maze for added difficulty (and fun)!
Printable Halloween scavenger hunts offer an exciting and easy, fun Halloween activity that will undoubtedly be a hit with friends and family. Happy hunting!
FAQs
I made it as easy as possible for you – that’s the best part about this printable Halloween “treasure” hunt! Simply print out as many copies as you need, then have each child participating carry it around with a crayon or marker to mark off the things they see as they walk around the house, the neighborhood, or the school!
There are different Halloween scavenger hunt ideas out there that use different formats. You can use hunts with clue cards like I created for my Free Printable Easter Scavenger Hunt Clues, or you can simply use free printable Halloween scavenger hunt games with images on them (LIKE THIS simple Halloween scavenger hunt!). I love this “Bingo” card style!
The images on these boards allow younger kids to do the activity too, and there is a large enough variety that anyone can enjoy the activity. I would say that anyone 4 or 5+ would have fun with it!
I love to give out a prize to the winner at the end of the hunt. However, to ensure everyone has a great time and isn’t worried about feeling left out, I stay away from Halloween candy and give out non-candy treats (like stickers or glow sticks) instead!
Happy Halloween!
