Toilet Paper Roll Monsters Craft Notes And Tips
- Start saving your toilet paper rolls early enough so that you have so there is enough for everyone to have several rolls to create with.
- Liquid glue, such as Elmer’s, or a glue stick will work best for this project.
- I would recommend a good craft paint that will wash out of the paint brushes easily. This way you will have clean brushes in good condition for the next craft project.
- You may want to have a roll of tape handy to use where glue just isn’t the best choice. For instance, if you are trying to put arms or horns on your monster, it might be easier to tape them on instead of using glue.
Variations Of Toilet Paper Roll Monsters To Try
- Go online and find printable templates for noses, arms, legs or ears. Print them out, cut them out and let the kids have fun making their silly monsters.
- If painting the rolls is not an option for some reason, use construction paper and glue it directly to the toilet paper roll. That might also work better for younger kids since it’s less messy!
- Add construction paper, pom poms and yarn to the list of supplies. Use the yarn or pom poms for hair and the construction paper can be used to make a hat, scarf or funky fun shoes.
- Use different types of textured paper on your toilet paper roll monster to add some interesting and fun dimension.
FAQs
Can I use paper towel rolls to create my monsters?
I think a paper towel roll will work. Of course, it is a much longer roll than the toilet paper roll so you may have to find a way to help the roll stand upright.
Or you could cut it in half so it’s shorter. 😉
Or, Option #3, you could lay it down and use your imagination to make a monster in that manner.
And idea #4…make a monster “totem pole” where you essentially stack several different monsters above each other.
Will the liquid glue make my toilet paper roll too soft?
You definitely could if you get too much of the glue on the roll. If you paint the toilet paper roll, that will certainly help with giving the cardboard a little protection against getting wet and soft.
Instead of liquid glue (like Elmer’s), I recommend using a glue stick, hot glue gun, or glue dots.
How do I get the craft eyes to stay in place on my Toilet Paper Roll Monster since they tend to be a little heavy?
If you have craft glue, it tends to be thicker and works well on heavier items.
Regardless of what glue you use, you may have to hold the googly eyes in place for a minute or so giving them a chance to adhere and stay in place.
