Easy Homemade Air Fryer Egg Rolls (Crispy + Healthy)
These Air Fryer Egg Rolls are easy to make, ultra satisfying, and healthier than your favorite Chinese takeout. Crispy outside with a tender, flavorful filling, these homemade egg rolls will become your new favorite go-to appetizer, snack, or light meal!

My air fryer is my most-used kitchen appliance. Air fryers use hot air circulation to cook food evenly and quickly, resulting in crispy, crunchy crust with tender, juicy interiors – all with a fraction of the oil required when frying.
The air fryer is a game-changer for busy families! They cut down on cooking time, don’t heat up the house (like the oven does), and require little or no oil to get that irresistible fried texture.
You can use an air fryer to make a yummy meal of Air Fryer Greek Chicken Kabobs or even an irresistible BBQ Chicken Wings appetizer.
Our family loves eating Chinese food. Feeding a family with three teenage boys can be a strain on the budget, so I’ve started learning how to make some of our favorite dishes.
And now, when I make Chinese Chicken and Broccoli or Slow Cooker Mongolian Beef, I can make a batch of air fryer egg rolls as an appetizer or side dish!
Ingredients Needed
- Ground Chicken – cooked
- Store-bought Coleslaw Mix – you can make your own, but this saves time!
- Oil – vegetable, canola, olive oil, or sesame oil
- Minced Garlic – pre-minced or fresh
- Ginger Paste
- Soy Sauce – regular, lite or low sodium
- White Vinegar
- Cornstarch
- Egg Roll Wrappers – rice paper wonton wrappers will work as well

How to Make Homemade Air Fryer Egg Rolls
A plate full of crispy air fryer egg rolls are just minutes away! Whether you’re making them as a delicious appetizer or a side dish for dinner, simply follow these easy step-by-step directions.
Step 1 – Cook The Chicken
Set your Instant Pot to sauté and add oil.
Allow oil to heat up and then add in the chicken and brown.

Step 2 – Add Spices and Coleslaw Mix
When the chicken is cooked through, add in garlic, ginger, salt, pepper, sesame, soy sauce and white vinegar. Cook for an additional minute.
Next, add in the coleslaw, put the lid on the instant pot and set on high for 10 minutes.

When finished cooking, manually release the pressure.
Step 3 – Fill Wonton Wrappers
Place the wonton wrappers on a flat surface so that you are looking at a diamond versus a square. Add 2 to 3 tablespoons of the cooked egg roll filling into the center of the wrapper.

Step 4 – Roll Up Wonton Wrappers
Wet the edges of the seam side of the wonton wrapper with a little water. Next, fold over the right side over the filling then the left side.
Finally, fold bottom corner up and over the filling and roll upward.

Step 5 – Air Fry Egg Rolls
Place the rolled egg rolls into the air fryer basket and spray or lightly brush with vegetable oil.
Cook in air fryer for 6 – 7 minutes at 400 degrees. Flip, spray the top with oil and cook an additional 3 minutes to get golden brown crispy egg rolls.

Air Fryer Egg Rolls Expert Notes And Tips
- It is best to leave the wonton wrapper closed until you are ready to add the filling or they will begin to dry out and it will be harder to roll and dampen the edges to close.
- When adding the egg rolls to the air fryer, be sure that they are not touching. This will allow them to brown evenly on all sides and prevent them from sticking together.
- If you’re following a lower calorie diet, you can lightly brush the egg rolls with egg whites instead of oil if you prefer to help with the browning process.Â
Variations To Try
- Ground turkey and ground pork are delicious alternatives to chicken.
- Our favorite dipping sauce options for egg rolls are teriyaki sauce, duck sauce, sweet and sour sauce, sweet chili sauce, or Sriracha. My personal favorite is sweet and sour!
- For those of you who prefer vegetarian options, add tofu to the mixture instead of ground meat.
- You can also change up the veggie mix and use sliced snow peas, shredded carrots, chopped water chestnuts, or edamame in your vegetarian egg rolls.

Air Fryer Egg Rolls Storage
You can keep them in an airtight container in the fridge for up to 3 – 4 days. They are delicious leftovers and easy to pop back into the air fryer for 3 – 4 minutes to warm and crisp them up.
FAQs
Can I make this easy egg roll recipe ahead of time?
Yes! You can make the filling ahead of time and place it in the refrigerator overnight if necessary. I would not add the filling to the wonton wrapper and allow to sit for an extended period of time as it may make the wrapper soggy before you air fry the egg rolls.
Can I freeze these air fryer egg rolls?
Yes, you can freeze homemade egg rolls, whether they are cooked or uncooked.
Wrap each egg roll individually in plastic wrap. Place the wrapped rolls in a single layer in a freezer-safe container or freezer bag.
Alternatively, you could place egg rolls slightly spread out on a baking sheet in the freezer until they are frozen and then store them in a freezer-safe container or bag.
How long can I freeze air fryer egg rolls?
Frozen egg rolls can be stored in the freezer for up to 3 – 4 months. You can freeze them in batches of two or three so you can just grab and go for a quick snack or meal.
