What Is Pumpkin Butter
Never heard of pumpkin butter? It’s basically the same concept as apple butter (one of my personal favorite and another Fall staple).
All you need is just a few ingredients that you likely already have on hand in your kitchen or pantry, a crockpot, and a few small jars.
It’s the perfect spread to keep on hand and serve with all kinds of fall goodies — especially breakfast. Yum!
Pumpkin Butter will go great on cornbread, toast, bagels, pancakes or English Muffins. Don’t forget to add it to your Zucchini Muffins! Heck, why not give it a try on dessert such as ice cream too?
I know this recipe will quickly become a fall favorite. Ok, you and I both know it will be a hit all year round. 😁

If you don’t have pumpkin pie spice, you can make your own by combining:
- 3 T. cinnamon
- 1 T. ground ginger
- 1 T. ground nutmeg
- 2 t. ground allspice

What type of containers could I store my Crock Pot Pumpkin Butter in?
The size and type of container that will work best is going to depend on a couple things.
First, how many people are there in your family. For smaller families you could use a smaller container that could hold 4 – 5 servings. For larger families, you would want a larger container that would hold 8 – 10 servings.
As for the type of container, my preference would be the small glass jars with the screw-on lid but you may prefer a small to medium size Tupperware type container.
Either of these types of containers will freeze well or keep in the fridge nicely.
Does Crock Pot Pumpkin Butter contain butter?
Pumpkin butter does not contain butter. It is a thick texture very similar to butter, therefore the name. It is comparable to the consistency of apple butter which also does not contain butter.
Can Crock Pot Pumpkin Butter be frozen?
Yes, you can freeze it for up to a year. Place in a freezer-safe container leaving at least 1/2″ from the top of the container.
Tip: Freeze in smaller size containers so that you can pull out only want you need instead of the whole batch.
Is pumpkin butter the same as pumpkin puree?
Pumpkin puree and pumpkin butter are not the same things. On the other hand, puree is a blend of winter squash in a pureed form.
Crock Pot Pumpkin butter is pumpkin puree that has been cooked with spices, sugars, and apple cider.
