We LOVE pizza! In fact, it’s one of the relatively few dishes that we ALL enjoy.

But it can get a little old if you eat it the same way every single time. So, over the last few years, I’ve shared a few different ways to make pizza – and keep it interesting.

Just like you, I am always looking for different and unique ways to make pizza that my family loves.

I was so excited to make this Easy Air Fryer Calzone recipe. It is healthier than deep-fried calzones, and they taste absolutely delicious.

I also love experimenting with my air fryer because it is so versatile, efficient, and easy to use.

This recipe has quickly become one of my family’s most requested meals for a couple of reasons.

They are able to build their own calzone with their favorite flavors and ingredients.

Also, I do not have to heat up the kitchen by turning on the stove, and they can easily customize and bake their own calzone or reheat leftovers…..if we are fortunate enough to have any. 😂

I promise you and your family will love the simplicity of this recipe and the fact that your family members can make their own calzone just exactly the way they want.

Easy Air Fryer Calzone Recipe Notes And Tips

  • If you overstuff the pizza dough with cheese and pepperoni, you will have a hard time closing the calzone and keeping it closed. Less is more. 😉
  • You can cut the dough circle larger if you wish so that you can add in more toppings. Just make sure you add on extra cooking time to make sure the dough is cooked and golden brown.
  • I prefer to crimp the edges of my calzones with a fork. Press down firmly enough to seal the edge but not to break through the dough.
  • You will want to be sure to leave a little space between each calzone when placing them in the air fryer basket. This will allow the calzones to crisp up perfectly on all edges.
  • Be mindful not to spread the pizza sauce all the way to the edge when smoothing it on the dough. If the pizza sauce is spread all the way to the edge, you will have a harder time keeping the crimp sealed.

Variations Of Air Fryer Calzone To Try

  • Change up the protein in your calzone and used extra cheese, hamburger, Italian sausage, bacon, or chicken.
  • Experiment with your favorite fillings. Here are a few of mine: red onion, bell peppers, baby spinach, jalapenos, pineapple, or green onion.
  • Mozzarella cheese is generally my go-to for this recipe, but I like to experiment with cheddar, ricotta, parmesan, or Pecorino Romano.
  • Serve your calzones with a delicious dipping sauce such as marinara, tangy BBQ, Alfredo sauce, or ranch dressing.
