Premade or Homemade Chocolate Mummy Cupcakes?
When it comes to cupcakes, I personally LOVE the taste of homemade cupcakes. But unfrosted cupcakes from the store taste incredible too, and they are a GREAT time-saver! (no judgement!)
The same thing goes for icing. Homemade frosting is fresh and amazing, but you can save time by using store-bought frosting. Unless you’re a culinary expert (and how many kids are?), you won’t notice the difference without them being side by side.
Other frosting alternatives include cream cheese frosting on the cupcakes and strips of fondant as the mummy bandages. Personally, I don’t love the method of using fondant because, in this instance, it’s MUCH more time-consuming and produces (I think) inferior results.
Mummy Halloween Cupcakes Tips
- Use ANY flavor of cupcakes that you want, but I highly recommend using chocolate cupcakes for this recipe!
- Your cupcakes need to be completely cooled before you decorate them.
- You may need to use a tiny dab of frosting on the back of the eyes to attach them to the cookies (or set them into the lines of frosting that are the mummy’s wrappings.
- Swap out the candy eyes for mini chocolate chips or small dabs of black frosting.
Mummy Cupcakes FAQs
Use either one! I love how the white frosting looks against the dark background of chocolate cupcakes. And no matter which flavor cupcake you use for these easy Halloween cupcakes, the vanilla frosting is a MUST 😁
Any kind you want! Use store-bought cupcakes, bake your own from scratch, or use a box mix! What you use comes down to how much work you want to put into making mummy cupcakes and how much time you have.
Store them in an airtight container, and they should stay fresh for 3-4 days.
Yes! I recommend freezing the cupcakes before you frost them or make the mummy cookies.
You can safely freeze them for up to 3 months. Then defrost them overnight in the refrigerator. Make and add the mummy Nutter Butters serving. Your mummy cupcakes will taste best if brought to room temperature before serving them.
Wouldn’t these mummy cupcakes be SO cute at your next Halloween get-together? And they’d be a hit at a Halloween classroom party!
