How To Make Easter Egg Rice Krispie Treats
If you’ve made traditional rice krispie treats before, you’ll follow a similar process here for a delicious no-bake dessert. The main differences will be in shaping and dyeing these no-bake treats into Easter Egg treats.
Step 1 – Melt Butter And Marshmallows Together
Melt butter and marshmallows on medium-low heat to medium heat in a large saucepan or pot. Stir often and make sure the mixture is melted and smooth.
Step 2 – Dye The Marshmallow Mixture
Add drops of food coloring into the melted marshmallow mixture until you achieve the desired color and food coloring is well mixed and incorporated.
NOTE: Divide the melted marshmallows and butter mixture into 3 – 4 equal parts and make each part a different color or make 3 – 4 separate batches and color as desired.
Step 3 – Add Cereal
Remove the mixture from the heat and add the cereal. Mix together well until cereal is completely mixed and coated.
Step 4 – Mix Together
Using your hands, take approximately 1/4 cup of the cereal mixture. Make sure the palms of your hands and fingers are buttered so the gooey marshmallows don’t stick.

Step 5 – Shape Rice Krispie Mixture Into Easter Eggs
Firmly press the mixture into an Easter egg shape and place on a piece of wax paper, parchment paper, or Silpat baking mat. Continue with this method until all of the mixture has been shaped into eggs.
Step 6 – Repeat Until Done
Repeat the process of molding the mixture into egg shapes with each different color.
Step 7 – Melt White Candy Melts
Using a double boiler or microwave-safe bowl, melt the white candy melts stirring until smooth.
Step 8 – Add Sprinkles
In a shallow bowl or tray, pour in the assorted sprinkles.
Step 9 – Decorate Easter Egg Rice Krispie Treats
Once the Rice Krispies mixture cools, carefully dip the bottom half of the egg into the white chocolate and then the sprinkles. Immediately put the egg on wax paper or parchment paper to allow the chocolate to set.
Step 10 – Repeat Until All Eggs Are Decorated
Continue this process until all the Rice Krispie Easter Eggs have been dipped and rolled in the sprinkles.
Serve your finished eggs to the whole family and enjoy this easy Easter dessert this year!

Easter Egg Rice Krispie Treats Expert Tips
- You can use an egg mold or a plastic egg as a mold if you prefer instead of molding the eggs with your hands. Don’t forget to spray the molds to prevent sticking.
- Use cooking spray on your hands to keep the Rice Krispie eggs from sticking to your hands instead of butter.
- Allow the molded egg to set for at least 15 – 20 minutes before dipping to allow the marshmallow and butter to cool. This will ensure that the eggs hold their shape.

The Color-Mixing Math for Professional-Looking Pastel Eggs
Most people add food coloring randomly and end up with muddy or neon colors instead of beautiful Easter pastels. There’s actually a formula.
The Exact Ratios for Perfect Pastel Easter Colors:
Soft Pink: 2 drops red gel food coloring per 4 cups marshmallow mixture
Baby Blue: 3 drops blue gel food coloring per 4 cups marshmallow mixture
Mint Green: 2 drops green gel food coloring per 4 cups marshmallow mixture
Lavender: 1 drop blue + 1 drop red per 4 cups marshmallow mixture
Butter Yellow: 2 drops yellow gel food coloring per 4 cups marshmallow mixture
Why these ratios work: The white marshmallows naturally lighten colors, but most people overcompensate by adding too much dye. These ratios account for the lightening effect while keeping colors soft and Easter-appropriate.
The critical mixing rule: Add food coloring to the melted marshmallow-butter mixture BEFORE adding cereal. Once cereal is in, you can’t achieve even color distribution without crushing the cereal.
The batch-size strategy for multiple colors: Make your full recipe in one pot, then immediately divide the melted marshmallow mixture into separate bowls (use a 2-cup measuring cup for speed). Add different colors to each bowl, then add the appropriate amount of cereal to each. This method is 5 minutes faster than making separate batches and ensures consistent texture across all colors.
Professional tip: Mix one shade darker than your target color. The cereal addition lightens the final result by approximately 15-20%, so slightly oversaturating gives you perfect pastels after mixing.

Storage Information
These easy Easter desserts will stay fresh and delicious when stored in an airtight container for up to 4 days. They do not need to be refrigerated.
Freezing instructions
Rice Krispie treats will freeze great. Simply wrap each egg in wax paper or plastic wrap individually. Then store in a freezer bag or freezer-safe container for up to 3 months.
With that being said, I would not recommend freezing these Rice Krispie eggs after you have dipped them in the white chocolate and sprinkles.
Freezing the dipped chocolate can change the texture and flavor of the chocolate and cause the colors of the sprinkles to bleed into the chocolate.

Easter Egg Rice Krispie Treats FAQs
Here are some common questions readers ask about our Easter Rice Krispie Treats recipe. If you don’t see your question below, please leave it in the comments so I can answer it!
Yes! You can totally melt the butter and marshmallows for this easy dessert in the microwave. Be careful to avoid scorching the ingredients by cooking them in 30-second intervals and stir thoroughly.
Yes, regular-sized marshmallows work perfectly and actually melt slightly faster than mini marshmallows. Use the same weight measurement—a 10-ounce bag of regular marshmallows equals about 40 regular marshmallows and will give you the same results as mini marshmallows in the recipe.
Hard Rice Krispie treats usually result from overcooking the marshmallow mixture or using too much cereal. Keep heat at medium-low and remove from heat immediately once marshmallows are fully melted—continued heating causes the sugars to harden. The ratio should be 3 tablespoons butter and 4 cups marshmallows to 6 cups cereal for optimal texture.
