When you think of your Thanksgiving meal, what comes to mind? Turkey? Potatoes? Salads?

What about the desserts…what do you usually make Pumpkin Pie Bars? Pecan Pie Bars? Dutch Apple Crisp Bars? (are you seeing a theme? 😂)

And of course, there’s always Pumpkin Cobbler, Cinnamon Roll Apple Pie Bites, or Turtle Cheesecake Bites.

Plus, don’t forget the homemade whipped cream!

Up until this point, I’ve shared delicious recipes (because I’m all about yummy food!) to make for the holidays, but I haven’t shared anything super cute and Thanksgiving holiday-specific. That changes today! And I’ve actually got TWO recipes to share!

I was inspired to create adorable turkey-shaped chocolates – made with strawberries! I wish I could say I  first came up with these adorable little edible chocolate turkeys, but I caught a glimpse of this viral fall recipe and knew I had to replicate it.

And since they look more like traditional turkeys than cute turkeys, I also made these Thanksgiving Oreo Turkeys Cookies with pieces of candy corn for the feathers!

Aren’t these chocolate covered strawberry turkeys super cute?

How To Make Chocolate-Covered Strawberry Turkeys

The process for making Thanksgiving turkeys out of strawberries is actually super simple and easy! Here’s how.

Step 1

Take the fresh strawberries and start by trimming off the tops of the strawberries.

Step 2

Pipe a small dab of frosting on each side of the strawberry.

NOTE: Or you could use a little melted chocolate or melted white chocolate instead. You just need something that will allow you to attach the legs of the turkey!

Step 3

Break the pretzel sticks in half for the strawberry turkey legs. Then, attach the pretzel sticks to the frosting (or melted white chocolate) to form the turkey’s legs (as shown in the collage image below).

Step 4

Chill in the freezer for a couple of minutes until the icing sets.

Step 5

Put the chocolate and a little bit of coconut oil in a microwave-safe bowl. Microwave in 30-second increments and stir in between until your melted chocolate is nice and smooth.

NOTE: if you aren’t comfortable melting your chocolate in the microwave, you can do it on the stove in a double boiler!

Step 6

Hold the strawberry over a bowl or place it on wax paper (or parchment paper) and spoon the melted milk chocolate over to cover it entirely.

NOTE: Alternatively, you could use a toothpick or fork to dip the entire strawberry in the melted chocolate before placing it on the rack to set.

Step 7

Place the chocolate-dipped strawberries on a wax paper-lined baking sheet and place the tray in the refrigerator until set.

Step 8

Time to add the white tips to the bottoms of each leg! Pipe on the white “feet” and let set. Or skip the cut side of the marshmallow on the broken end of the pretzel legs.

Your turkey chocolate-covered strawberries are “dressed” to impress and dress up your dessert table! Ha!

Chocolate-Covered Strawberry Turkeys Variation Ideas

Sometimes you can’t find certain ingredients or you just want to change things up, right? Here are some ideas of ways to change up these chocolate-covered strawberry turkeys.

  • Vanilla Tootsie Rolls – melt them and wrap them around the ends to create the leg caps.
  • Caramel – love caramel? Melt caramel candies and dip your strawberry turkeys into caramel instead of chocolate.
  • Mini Marshmallows – you could use marshmallows in place of the icing for a delicious twist!
  • White Chocolate – if you want a delicious twist with artistic license, use white chocolate instead of regular chocolate. Or use the white chocolate instead of the icing to glue on the pretzels for the ends of the legs.

Strawberry Turkeys FAQs

Got questions about making these adorable little turkeys? Here are answers to common questions I see!

Can I make these strawberry turkeys ahead of time?

Yes! Just like other chocolate covered strawberries, you can make them a couple of days ahead of time and they’ll be amazing! I love that because it makes Thanksgiving Day preparation (and cooking) easy.

Should I use cold strawberries or room temperature strawberries for this recipe?

You want them NOT cold. If your strawberries are refrigerated, take them out of the fridge about 30 minutes before you plan to make your strawberry turkeys. Wash and gently (but thoroughly) dry them with a paper towel so that the chocolate will set on them correctly.

Should I refrigerate these chocolate covered turkey strawberries?

You can leave any remaining strawberries out at room temperature if you plan to eat them within 24 hours. Otherwise, store leftover strawberry turkeys in the fridge where they will stay fresh for 2-3 days.
