At Halloween, for example, we might make jack-o-lantern food.
For Valentine’s Day, we like to make heart-shaped food! For example, dinner at our house may be Easy Heart-Shaped Mini Pizzas with Air Fryer Valentine’s Day Homemade Strawberry Pop Tarts for dessert.
And this year, as I was planning out what I plan to do for the class party, I decided it was TIME to do heart-shaped rice krispie treats!
Before the pandemic, I would have made things that didn’t necessarily NEED to be packaged individually.
But now, instead of the Valentine’s Day Dessert Charcuterie Board (which we do at home), I make things like Valentine’s Day Candy Bark, Valentine Cake Pops, and Valentine’s Chocolate-Covered Edible Lovebirds!
And this year, I made heart rice krispie treats – and my kids are THRILLED!
Oh, and what if I told you that I turned these heart-shaped rice krispie treats into heart pops?

- 6 cups rice cereal
- 1 drop Pink gel food coloring

- Sprinkles
- Nonstick spray
Instructions
At first glance, this recipe may look difficult, but it really isn’t! Just follow these step-by-step instructions, and in a short time, you’ll have heart-shaped rice kripsie treats to enjoy!
Step 1
First, melt your candy melts at 30-second intervals until fully melted.
Step 2
Pour chocolate into heart-shaped cavities making sure to get it completely up the sides.
Step 3
Place in freezer for 10-15 min until set.
Step 4
While that’s freezing make your rice cereal filling.
Step 5
In a large microwave-safe bowl, add butter and marshmallows, heat on HIGH to 2.5–3 mins until melted.
Remove and stir until smooth. Add 1-2 drops of pink gel food coloring to your heart-shaped rice krispie treats mix.
Step 6
Stir well, then add in rice cereal and sprinkles. Mix until combined.
Step 7
Remove the heart mold from the freezer and carefully add cereal mix to the molds, do not press hard at all, or the chocolate may crack.
Step 8
Cover the back with more chocolate and place back in the freezer for 7-9 mins.
Step 9
Carefully peel the molds and remove the cake pops and place them on the parchment paper.
Step 10
Melt the red candy melts in a piping bag in 30-sec increments.
Once melted, let them rest for 1-2 mins, then cut a small hole in the tip of the piping bag and create a drizzled design! Zigzags, circles, or lined patterns can all be fun ideas!
Immediately add sprinkles.
Let rest for 10-15 mins before serving.
Plain Hearts Variation (Not Candy-Coated)
Make the pink rice cereal mix for your heart-shaped rice krispie treats as stated above.
Pour into a pan lined with parchment (sprayed with nonstick spray). Let rest for 10 mins and remove from the pan but keep them on the parchment.
Use a 3-inch heart-shaped cookie cutter to cut out the shapes. Drizzle melted chocolate over the top and top with sprinkles.
Let set completely for 15-20 mins before bagging.
Heart-Shaped Rice Krispie Treats Notes
Here are a few notes to help ensure these treats come out perfectly every time!
- Using silicon pots helps control waste and spillage. You can leave the chocolate inside until it’s cool then peel it out and save it to use again another time!
- If you plan to bag these treats, let them rest for 30 minutes before placing them in a bag. This helps avoid smudging. Once bagged, they can be stored at room temperature for 3-4 days
- Spray your hands with nonstick spray before pressing them into molds or a tray.
- If you want to individually wrap these treats, use these cellophane bags!
