How to Make A Patriotic Charcuterie Board

  1. Gather your ingredients and charcuterie board – Begin by choosing a large wooden board or platter to assemble your ingredients.
  2. Plan your presentation – Consider how you are going to block out your pattern or design with the colors of the ingredients you are working with. For example, a cluster of blue ingredients on one side, red ingredients on the other, and the white/cheese ingredients in the center to simulate a flag.
  3. Arrange the food on your board – Arrange the meats in a stripe or fan them out in the ‘red’ section. Add red fruits and veggies to the same section. Fill the ‘blue’ section with the blue tortilla chips, blueberries, and other preferred items. Continue with the ‘white’ section and add the cheeses, dips, and any other items you desire.
  4. Add garnish – Add parsley or dill for a pop of fresh green color, if so desired. You could also add little toothpick American flags to add even more patriotic spirit!

Patriotic Charcuterie Board FAQs

Do you have questions about making this Patriotic Charcuterie Board? If you have a question and don’t see it already answered below, please leave it for me in the comments!

Can I make this Patriotic Charcuterie Board in advance?

Yes!!! I recommend you prepare the cheeses, fruit, and tomatoes first. You can do this a day or two in advance. You can arrange the fruits and cheeses on the board, cover them tightly with plastic wrap, and keep them chilled until ready to serve. Wait until you are ready to serve before adding the crackers, so they do not get soggy.

How long should I let the Patriotic Charcuterie Board sit out at room temperature?

The cheese, fruit, and tomatoes can sit at room temperature for up to 2 hours. If your party or event is outdoors, do your best to keep it out of the direct sun.

If you are concerned about the dips and yogurts, place them back in the fridge or a pan filled with ice after about an hour or so.

Are there any fruits that you would recommend NOT putting on a charcuterie board?

Excellent question! Watermelon is one fruit that I would suggest not adding to your board. It is very juicy unless you put it in a separate bowl, so the juice does not cause issues for the rest of your ingredients.

Bananas are another fruit I would recommend leaving off your board as well, as they will turn brown and not hold up in the outdoor summer temperatures.
