• Glue – Elmer’s liquid glue, glue stick, or craft glue

How to Make Popsicle Tissue Paper Craft

This fun kid’s craft is simple to make! Just follow these easy directions.

1. Download the template. The first step is to download the template shape of the popsicle.
2. Make the template. Using the template that you downloaded, trace the shape of the popsicles onto the construction paper or cardstock.
3. Crumple the tissue paper. Pinch and scrunch the tissue paper into tiny balls.
4. Apply the glue. Use an extra popsicle stick to spread a thin layer of glue over a small portion of the cut construction paper. Do not apply glue to the whole piece at once, as it will dry before you finish placing the crumpled tissue paper pieces. Work in small sections.
5. Press the crumpled paper onto the glue. Take one crumpled ball of tissue paper and press it gently onto the glued area. It should stick, but still keep its puffy, textured shape. Place the crumpled small pieces close together to avoid seeing the white paper underneath, but don’t mash the tissue paper flat.
6. Continue until each row is complete. Keep adding glue in small patches and filling those patches with crumpled paper until each row is complete.
7. Attach the popsicle stick. Glue a popsicle stick to the back of the decorated construction paper using Elmer’s glue or craft glue.

Work on a plastic tablecloth or a large piece of cardboard to keep the mess to a minimum. Tissue paper shreds and glue drips are easier to clean up when they’re confined to one wipeable surface.

If glue sticks are not strong enough to keep the pieces from falling off, use white glue applied with the popsicle stick. It takes longer to dry but creates a stronger bond. Just remind kids to use a little less pressure when placing each piece so they don’t smash the fullness of the crumpled tissue paper.

If you’re working with younger children, draw the template yourself and let them concentrate on the crumpling and gluing. For older kids (ages 5 and up), let them copy and cut the template themselves. It builds spatial awareness and gives them full ownership of the project.

Use a damp cloth. Keep a small bowl of water and a washcloth or a package of wet wipes within reach so kids can wipe their sticky fingers when needed. This keeps momentum going and reduces interruptions.

Allow adequate drying time. If you’re using white glue, let the finished beach ball dry flat for at least an hour before trying to move it; Moving it too quickly can cause pieces to shift or fall off.
