Supplies Needed

Making a cute paper plate pumpkin fairy house only requires a few simple supplies:

  • Paper plate – I recommend using a basic white paper plate, not the expensive kind.
  • Construction paper – Grab several colors including yellow, orange, green, brown, red, and black.
  • Scissors – Younger kids may benefit from using safety scissors.
  • Glue – A glue stick is perfect for small children. Older kids may prefer to use Elmer’s school glue.
  • Orange paint – Use your favorite craft paint.
  • Colored pencils or markers

How To Make A Pumpkin Fairy House

  1. Make your “pumpkin” – Cut the bottom part of the paper plate straight and paint it orange.
  2. Use the templates to make the parts of the house – trace and cut out the pieces, then glue them to the house.
  3. Draw vines on the paper plate using the green marker or colored pencil.
  4. Add the stem and leaf (from the templates) at the top of the paper plate.
  5. Attach the door and grass at the bottom.
  6. Attach the pumpkin, bug, and stairs.
  7. Attach the door and window.

Pumpkin Lacing Craft Notes And Expert Tips

Be CREATIVE! – Follow the steps, but feel free to add your own imaginative touches.

If you’re doing this with very young kids who can’t use scissors yet, help them cut out the pieces (or cut them out for them).

Young children may also need help with outlining the template shapes – but it’s great fine motor skills practice for them to at least try!

Working with paint can get messy, so you may want to let young kids wear old clothes or an apron/smock to make cleanup easier.

Variations To Try

  • Add toadstools – every fairy house needs at least one!
  • Create steps and/or a rock pathway from the front door with construction paper and markers
  • Add a bird bath
  • Make some pretty flowers
  • The possibilities are endless!
