The fall season is filled with many fun, traditional crafts and activities. Here’s a new idea: pumpkin disguises! This activity works well with kids of all ages and lets their imagination run wild as they disguise a pumpkin to look like anything other than a pumpkin! The Halloween season is filled with all kinds of fun activities, crafts, and food. From family favorites like going to the pumpkin patch, pumpkin carving (and no-carve decorating), and kids crafts to every kind of delicious pumpkin recipe imaginable, there’s something for everyone to enjoy.

And although October can be a very exciting month for families, it can be a hard month for pumpkins.

In fact, both October and November are tough for pumpkins. Did I mention the carving? Don’t forget about all these pumpkin foods – and the pies!

So, this year, I’m on a mission to help the ordinary pumpkin – by disguising it.

I created this set of fun pumpkin disguises that can be used as a cut and paste activity or a coloring activity – or both! And there’s plenty of fun to be had because there are 14 disguises to choose from in this creative Halloween activity!

How To Use This Pumpkin in Disguise Activity

One thing I love about this pumpkin craft activity is that kids of all ages will enjoy it!

It makes a great cutting skills activity for younger kids. Older kids can work on their coloring skills, and all kids will love turning their pumpkins into something new!

Coloring activity for fine motor skills development
Cutting and pasting for building scissor skills
Multiple media experience – instead of crayons, let the kids use markers or watercolors or craft paint to color their disguises!
Encouraging creativity – letting kids see something very recognizable as something different (a pumpkin in disguise!) encourages them to think outside the box. Take it a step further by mixing and matching disguises to create a unique, creative disguise!

How To Extend The Activity

This activity can take a while with young children as they work on those fine motor skills. Older kids may fly through the basic activity, so extend it to work on writing skills by adding a short writing activity.

This idea can work equally for 1st grade-aged kids as for middle school-aged kids!

I recommend having them pick their favorite disguised pumpkin and write a story, a poem, or some other creative writing assignment about it.
