Halloween is almost here! My kids love Halloween, so we spend the entire month of October picking out the perfect costume, going to haunted houses, eating Halloween-themed food, and doing Halloween crafts.
We usually start the season with a fun Halloween Scavenger Hunt or watching a Family Halloween Movie to help us get into the Halloween spirit. Then we move on to other holiday activities.
This quick and easy ghost craft is spooky enough for the season but also cute enough that little kids will enjoy making it!
If you’re looking for simple ghost crafts to make with a large group of kiddos (a playdate, Halloween party, or classroom), this ghost craft (and our Free Printable Halloween Bingo) will be your go-to!

Supplies Needed to Make Handprint Ghosts
You only need a few simple materials to make this easy Halloween craft:
- White paper – You can use printer paper, card stock, or construction paper.
- Black card stock – You can definitely use black construction paper, but black card stock provides more sturdiness.
- Black marker – Any black marker will work from washable craft markers to Sharpie markers!
- Two googly eyes – You could draw eyes on your ghost with the black marker, but I love how the googly eyes make this ghost craft come to life!
- Scissors – Choose appropriate scissors for the age of the kids doing the craft. If young kids are cutting out ghost shapes, I recommend using safety scissors.
- Pencil – We like to draw the ghost shape on the paper before cutting the shape out.
- Glue – A glue stick is an easy way to attach your ghost craft to the black card stock paper. Alternative options include liquid school glue or glue dots.

How To Make a Ghost Craft
To make a DIY ghost with your little ones, follow these simple instructions:
- Draw a ghost shape on the white paper with a pencil – Using a pencil lets you erase mistakes during the process. The shape of the ghost can vary – get creative!
- Cut out the ghost.
- Make the ghostly face – Glue the googly eyes onto the ghost face. Add the ‘eyebrows.’ Draw the mouth with a black marker.
- Glue the ghost to the black paper. Display with your other Halloween decorations and enjoy this cute DIY ghost decoration!

Ghost Craft Expert Tips and Variations to Try!
Ghosts can just simply be left white, or you can add some silly things to them!
- Make glittery, sparkly ghosts with glitter card stock.
- Add texture – Glue pipe cleaners or yarn around the edges of each ghost.
- You could also glue white cotton balls, white tissue paper balls, or pom poms on the ghost for a fun 3D effect!
- Add stickers – Halloween-themed stickers can add color and uniqueness.
- Name the craft – Use a metallic Sharpie to add the ghost’s “name” on the black cardstock or the child’s name to the back so it’s easy to see!
- Paint your ghost! Instead of cutting out a ghost shape from white paper, you could draw a ghost shape with a pencil on the black paper and use white paint to paint the ghost!
